A powerful cyclone struck Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal on Sunday afternoon, resulting in significant loss of life and property. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee promptly arrived on the scene Sunday night to assess the situation and personally met with injured individuals at the hospital. Banerjee assured affected residents of government support, stating, "We are aware of the loss, and the administration is standing by for all kinds of help."
The cyclone's impact included widespread damage to homes, uprooted trees, and fallen electric poles due to strong winds and hailstorms across the district. The toll stands at 5 confirmed deaths and over 500 reported injuries, with the number expected to rise. Expressing sorrow over the disaster, CM Banerjee canceled her scheduled engagements and rushed to Jalpaiguri to oversee relief efforts and offer support to those affected.
